Privacy policy

Who we are

Convoready is a language-learning app operated by Benjamin Hahn, a sole proprietorship in Texas, United States. "We" and "us" below mean that operator.

Write to privacy@convoready.ai about anything on this page — a question, a copy of your data, a correction, or a complaint.

What we collect

Only what the app needs to work. There is no sign-up questionnaire, no profile to fill in, and nothing collected in the background about you as a person.

What we don’t collect

We don’t ask for your name, address, phone number, location or contacts, and we never see your payment details — a plan is bought from the App Store, and Apple is the one that takes the payment and holds the card.

We never go looking through your photo library or your files. The only ones we receive are the ones you pick yourself and attach to a scenario, and you can delete any of them at any time.

We do not sell your information, we do not show advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

Why we use it

We use what we collect for these purposes, and not for others.

Who else sees what you write

Practicing a language means sending what you say to a language model. We ask for your explicit permission before any of it is sent, and you can withdraw that permission at any time from Account → AI data sharing.

These companies process it on our behalf, and each one receives a different, narrow part:

Anthropic — the messages you write in a practice conversation, the conversation so far, phrases and scenarios you add, the files you attach to a scenario, and the questions you ask with Ask AI, for generating the character’s replies, the feedback on your turns, hints, explanations, and the written summary of a file you attach.

OpenAI — the audio you record in Speaking mode, in the app or in the free sample on our website, for turning that audio into text so it can be used as your message.

Google — the text to be spoken aloud, such as a character’s line or a phrase you asked to hear, for producing the audio you hear (Google Cloud Text-to-Speech).

These hold your information without any of it being read by a model: Clerk, for holding your account and signing you in; Amazon Web Services, for hosting the service in the United States, and delivering problem reports to our inbox; Cloudflare, for checking that a real browser is asking for a sample rather than a script (Turnstile); Apple, for selling and billing a subscription as the merchant of record, and telling us whether yours is active.

Our agreements with the companies that receive what you write do not permit them to use it to train their models. Each company listed here describes its own handling and retention in its own privacy policy.

Your private notes on a phrase are never sent to any of them, and no AI feature in the app reads them.

The free sample on our website

You can try one short practice conversation at convoready.ai without an account, without giving us an email address, and without agreeing to anything first. This section is only about that. If you are using the app, none of it applies to you.

The messages you write in that conversation are sent to Anthropic to generate the replies, the ratings and the feedback, exactly as they are in the app. That is the point of the page, and it is said on it.

We do not store the conversation. It lives in your browser tab and is sent to us only so the next reply can be written; nothing you typed is kept on our servers, and closing the tab ends it. Because we keep no record of it, there is nothing for us to look up, send you, correct or delete afterwards, and no way for us to connect it to you.

What we do keep is a scrambled, one-way version of the network address you connected from, so the same address cannot take the sample repeatedly. It is not the address itself, it cannot be turned back into one, and it is deleted within a day. Alongside it we keep a count of how many messages that sample used, and a record of what the requests cost us, which holds no part of what you wrote.

The page uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a real browser is asking for a sample rather than a script. Cloudflare receives your network address and some information about your browser for that check, under its own privacy policy, and we receive only its yes or no.

Spoken practice works the same way as in the app: while you are recording, the audio is sent to OpenAI to be turned into text, and then discarded. We never store a recording of you.

When the page reads a line aloud, the character's words are sent to Google to be turned into speech, as they are in the app. Only the character's lines are sent, never yours.

Recordings

Speaking mode records your voice only while you are holding a turn. The audio is sent to OpenAI, turned into text, and then discarded. We never store a recording of you.

The text it becomes is your message, and is stored with the conversation like anything else you wrote.

Content that is stored once and reused

Some AI-generated material — a grammar explanation for a phrase, the spoken audio for a line — is stored once and reused for anyone who asks for the same thing. It is filed under the phrase or the sentence, never under you, and nothing in that store is linked to an account or can be traced back to one.

If you add a phrase of your own, the explanation and audio generated for it go into that store too, so the next person studying the same phrase does not wait for it to be written again. It stays there if you delete your account — by then there is nothing left connecting it to you.

Payments and subscriptions

Plans are bought through the App Store, and Apple is the seller. Your payment details go to Apple and never to us: we do not see a card number, a bank detail, or the email address your Apple Account uses. Apple handles that under its own privacy policy, linked in the list above.

What Apple passes back to us about a subscription, and what we store, is this:

We also generate a random identifier for your account and hand it to Apple with a purchase, so the purchase can be matched to the right account. It is a random string, it says nothing about you, and it is not your Apple Account.

None of this reaches the companies that run the AI. Nothing about a payment is ever sent to Anthropic, OpenAI or Google.

How long we keep it

How long each kind of thing is kept:

Your choices, and your rights

You can do the first of these yourself, at any time. For the rest, write to us and we will respond within 30 days.

How we protect it

Everything travels over an encrypted connection. The database is encrypted at rest, and its backups inherit that encryption. Files you attach are held in private storage, encrypted at rest as well, which is never public and which your device reaches only through a link we sign for you that stops working shortly after it is issued. Credentials for the services we depend on are held in a managed secret store, never in the app or in our code, and are readable only by the running server.

No system is perfectly secure, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. If a breach ever affects your information, we will tell you.

Children

You must be at least 13 to hold an account, and if you are under 18 you need a parent or guardian’s permission. Convoready is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

We do not ask for your date of birth, and we never store one. We ask the App Store only whether you are old enough, and we record only that the check ran and by what means — never what it said.

If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we close it and delete everything on it. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has an account, write to privacy@convoready.ai and we will do the same.

Please keep sensitive details out of conversations

Conversations are free text, and they are stored. Please don’t type anything you would not want stored: health details, financial or government-identification numbers, or anything similar about you or anyone else.

Some scenarios invite it without meaning to — a restaurant conversation may lead you to mention a food allergy, because that is a normal thing to say in a restaurant. You are welcome to invent one. We don’t ask for these details, and we don’t use anything in a conversation beyond generating the replies within it.

Where your information is stored

On servers in the United States. The companies listed above may process what they receive in other countries under their own terms.

The app is offered in the United States and is not directed to people in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes we update the date at the bottom of this page. If a change is significant — a new company receiving what you write, or a new kind of information collected — we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.

Ask us at privacy@convoready.ai for an earlier version if you want to see what changed.

Terms of use

This agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Benjamin Hahn, a sole proprietorship in Texas, United States, who operates Convoready. By creating an account, using the app, or trying the free sample on our website you accept them. If you do not accept them, please don’t use any of it.

The privacy policy above is part of this agreement, and describes what happens to what you write.

Who may use Convoready

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you may use Convoready only with a parent or guardian’s permission, and they accept these terms with you.

If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we close it and delete everything in it.

The app is offered in the United States, and you may not use it where United States law forbids us to provide it. The same goes for the free sample on our website.

One account per person. Your plan, your free trial and any complimentary allowance belong to that account, and opening a second one to get more of any of them is not allowed. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has them.

What Convoready is

Convoready is a language-learning app. You practice by having conversations, and those conversations are generated by an artificial-intelligence language model.

You are talking to an AI, not to a person. The characters you meet are fictional, they have no knowledge of the real world beyond what the model produces, and nothing they say comes from a human being.

What the AI says may be wrong

Language models invent things. Convoready’s output can be mistaken, out of date, grammatically wrong, culturally off, or occasionally inappropriate despite the guardrails we put around it. Treat it as practice material, not as fact.

It is not professional advice of any kind — not medical, dietary, legal, financial or travel advice, and not a reliable translation for a situation that matters.

One example, because it is the one most likely to matter: a restaurant scenario may discuss food allergies or dietary restrictions, and a character may tell you a dish is fine. That is practice dialogue, not a safety assessment, and it is sometimes wrong. Never rely on anything this app says about what is safe to eat, or about anything else that could hurt you.

If the AI says something that should not have been said, please tell us through Report a problem in the app.

What you write stays yours

You keep ownership of everything you create — your scenarios, phrases, notes, and the messages you write in a conversation.

So that the app can work, you give us permission to store what you write, to move it between your devices, and to send the relevant part of it to the companies named in the privacy policy for a reply, a transcription or an audio clip to be produced. That permission covers nothing else. We do not publish what you write, sell it, or use it to train models.

One thing works differently, and the privacy policy describes it in full: AI-generated material such as a grammar explanation or a spoken audio clip is stored once and reused for anyone who asks for the same phrase. That store is not linked to any account, and it outlives account deletion because by then nothing in it points at anyone.

You confirm that you have the right to whatever you put into the app, and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.

How not to use it

Don’t use Convoready for any of the following, or to help anyone else do them. The list is not exhaustive.

Reporting, and what we do about it

The app’s menu has a Report a problem row. Use it for anything the model said that should not have been said, and for anything that is simply broken.

We review the reports we receive, and may remove content, suspend an account or close it. We do not monitor conversations proactively — they are yours — but we do act on what is reported to us.

The AI allowance

Every AI reply costs us money, so each account gets a weekly allowance of AI practice. How large it is depends on your plan: each of the three gives more than the one below it, and the Subscription page says how much more before you buy anything.

A new account starts on a two-week free trial instead, so you can try the app before deciding. It carries the Practice plan’s weekly allowance, which resets each week exactly as a plan’s does, and it ends fourteen days after you confirm your email address. After that, AI practice pauses until you buy a plan.

When a weekly allowance runs out, practice pauses until it resets. Either way everything you have saved stays exactly where it is, and the rest of the app keeps working.

We may change the size of any allowance, and will say so in the app when we do.

Plans, payment and the free trial

Convoready has three plans — Practice, Learn and Max. Each one is a subscription that renews every month until you cancel it, and each gives a larger weekly allowance of AI practice than the one below it.

Every new account starts on a two-week free trial instead of a plan, so you can try the app before paying for anything. The trial begins when you confirm your email address and gives you the Practice plan’s weekly allowance of AI practice for fourteen days. You are not charged for it, nothing renews at the end of it, and you do not have to cancel anything. One trial per email address: if you delete your account and sign up again with the same address, you carry on the trial you already had — with whatever time and allowance were left of it — rather than starting a second one.

When the two weeks are up, AI practice pauses until you buy a plan. Nothing you have saved is affected, and the rest of the app keeps working.

If you buy a plan while the trial is still running, the plan starts and is charged immediately, and whatever is left of that week’s trial allowance is added to your plan’s allowance rather than being lost, and it carries no expiry date. Allowance from an earlier week, and any allowance left when a trial simply runs out, is not carried over — and none of this is money or a refund, only AI practice.

Plans are sold only through Apple’s in-app purchase, which is what Apple requires for digital content. Apple is the seller: the price shown in the app comes from the App Store, in your store’s currency, and it is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.

A subscription renews automatically at the same price unless you turn auto-renew off at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Manage it, change how you pay, or cancel it in Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions; the app’s Subscription page opens the same place. Canceling stops the next renewal — you keep the plan until the period you have paid for runs out.

Changing plan follows Apple’s rules rather than ours. Moving up takes effect straight away, and Apple refunds the unused part of the plan you were on. Moving down takes effect at the next renewal, and you keep the plan you have until then.

Refunds are Apple’s to give, under Apple’s own policy — ask Apple, not us. If a renewal payment fails, Apple gives you a grace period to put it right, and your plan keeps working while that runs.

If a subscription ends, AI practice pauses and everything you have saved stays exactly where it is. Buying a plan again turns it back on.

We may give an account a complimentary weekly allowance — testers, people we invite, and everyone who already had an account when plans were introduced — and we may stop doing that at any time. It is a courtesy rather than something you can buy or claim, it is not a plan, and it does not come from Apple. An account with one of these does not get a free trial, because it already has an allowance.

You cannot delete your account while a subscription would still renew. Cancel it with Apple first, because we have no way to cancel one for you; after that you can delete at once, and you give up whatever is left of the period you have paid for.

The free sample on our website

Our website offers one short practice conversation, with no account and nothing to pay. It is a taste of the app rather than a version of it, and everything above about what the AI says being sometimes wrong applies to it in full.

It is limited on purpose: one conversation, a set number of messages, and roughly one sample a day for each network address. Working around those limits is not allowed, and that includes automating the page, using it through a service that hides or rotates network addresses in order to take more samples, or calling the website’s own endpoints from anything other than the page itself.

We do not store what you write there, so there is nothing to come back to and nothing to recover. Save anything you want to keep before you close the tab.

We may change the sample, limit it further, or withdraw it entirely at any time, and we may pause it without notice — it costs us money for every reply, and it is offered as a courtesy rather than as a service you are entitled to.

Beta, and availability

Convoready is in active development. Features change, some of them abruptly, and a beta cannot be promised to be free of faults.

We do not promise the service will be available without interruption, and we may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it. Don’t treat the app as the only home for anything you could not bear to lose.

If that happens while you are paying for a plan, cancel it in your Apple Account settings — only you can — and any refund is Apple’s to decide under its own rules.

Ending it

You can delete your account at any time from the Account screen, unless a subscription would still renew — cancel it with Apple first, since we cannot do that for you. Deleting is immediate and permanent, and the privacy policy describes exactly what is deleted.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we may stop offering the service entirely. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you first. Neither of those cancels a subscription you bought from Apple — only you can do that, in your Apple Account settings — and any refund is Apple’s to decide. The sections about your content, disclaimers, liability, indemnity and governing law survive the end of this agreement.

No warranties

To the fullest extent the law allows, Convoready is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory — including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the app will meet your requirements, that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that anything the AI produces is accurate, appropriate or fit for any purpose.

Some states do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of this may not apply to you.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or the cost of substitute services, arising out of or relating to your use of Convoready — whether or not we were told such damages were possible.

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for all claims relating to Convoready is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or fifty United States dollars.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and some jurisdictions do not allow some of these limits, in which case they apply to you only as far as the law allows.

If someone sues us over what you did

To the extent the law allows, you agree to defend and indemnify us against claims, damages and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these terms, from content you put into the app, or from your misuse of it.

The services we rely on

Convoready runs on services operated by other companies — they are named in the privacy policy, along with what each one receives. Their own terms govern their side of it, and we are not responsible for their acts or omissions.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we update the date at the bottom of this page, and for a significant change we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.

We may also change what a plan costs. A new price never applies to a period you have already paid for, and we will tell you in the app before it applies to you. Where Apple’s rules require your agreement to a price increase, Apple asks you for it, and the subscription does not renew at the new price without it.

Continuing to use Convoready after a change means you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, cancel any subscription in your Apple Account settings and delete your account — that is always available to you and takes effect immediately.

Governing law, and disagreements

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. The state and federal courts located in Texas have exclusive jurisdiction, and you and we both consent to that.

Before filing anything, please write to privacy@convoready.ai describing the problem and give us 30 days to put it right. Most things are fixable that way, and we would rather fix them. Nothing here stops either of us from bringing a claim in small-claims court.

The rest

These terms and the privacy policy are the entire agreement between us about Convoready. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If we do not enforce something immediately, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.

You may not transfer this agreement to anyone else. We may transfer it if the app changes hands.

We will send you notices by email or in the app.
